Finland is a clean and quiet country where the feeling of space, the calm of the wilderness and the bustle of the lake districts is present throughout the year.

Unique national parks are gate to the Finnish nature and each of them showcase the natural characteristics of the area. They present archipelago dotted by islands and islets, virgin forests reaching quietly to the sky, lakes glimmering in a thousand shades of blue, and the wilderness of the Lapland fells. There is something for everybody – whether you’d like to walk in the wilderness along age old tracks, go for a short nature trip with your family or just wonder around picking berries.

Tampere is located on the south of Finland between two lakes, Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi. It is a great city to visit for children and adults! Also known as the Sauna Capital of the World!

In Tampere, the only problem for sauna enthusiasts is the embarrassment of riches as the range is so wide. You can choose the soft heat of the oldest public sauna in Finland, or the atmospheric warmth of the newest public sauna in Finland – and anything in between.

An area of thousands of lakes, islands, rivers, canals as well as forests and ridges. The heart of Finland and the biggest lake district in Europe. This is Finnish Lakeland.

Visit Finland, Mikko Nikkinen

Taking a trip to Lakeland is like taking a trip into the heart of Finnish identity. One of the most important birthplaces of the Finnish identity are the deep green forests, the rolling hills and the glittering lakes that cover most of central Finland.

As you might have heard, a big part of Finland is covered in water and Lakeland – as the name suggests – is where you find these lakes that are some of the cleanest in the world and, we might argue, the scenery some of the most beautiful.

Lakeland in Summer/Fall:

In the Lakeland area, you will be able to find a lot of nice manors and restaurants, some by the water. If you want to spend a holiday, in which you will be enjoying wilderness and sauna in a beautiful sceneries, Lakeland is the area to go.

Visit Finland, Simo Tolvanen

Lakeland has a lot of great holiday resorts, old national parks and some of the best family destinations in Finland. Come and enjoy the exceptional accommodations, hand-made local foods in stylish restaurants, atmospheric cruises, boutiques, cultural events and exhibitions.

  • canoeing
  • fishing
  • barbequing
  • sauna and swimming

Lakeland in Winter/Spring:

Visit Finland, Mikko Nikkinen

In the wintertime, the lakes are frozen and work as ice skating or snowmobile tracks. Another thing that is very popular during this time is ice fishing, especially when the sun comes out in the spring. For those looking for a more extreme experience, going to sauna and then dipping in a hole in the ice might be just what you need.

Sauna Region of the World

Sauna is a very essential part of Finnish culture, and Central Finland is proud to be the Sauna Region of the World. Central Finland is located in the Lakeland, and has some of the most spectacular places to dive into the sauna culture.

Visit Finland, Simo Tolvanen

Spas, holiday centers and hotels in Lakeland offer a wide range of possibilities to enjoy and experience sauna. It doesn’t matter if you are travelling with your family, spouse or bigger group, there are many packages and experiences to choose from.

You don’t have to go all the way to Lapland to see the Northern Lights

You can try different kinds of Finnish saunas and relax in the nature. New All Sky Aurora Igloos were opened for the summer 2018, so now you can choose the accommodation from glass igloo, cottage or hotel room.

In the Northern Lights Sauna Trail you can test 3 different kind of saunas – ancient smoke sauna, modern electric sauna and special tent sauna. The professional sauna guide will also tell you the myths and stories about sauna and the northern lights. The guide will also teach you to make sauna spells and open all your senses. The package includes also sauna wellness products, whisking, enjoying the silence, relaxing in hot outdoor tub, refreshing by swimming in lake – also in wintertime – and special Finnish sauna dishes.
